In March we introduced you to Craig Spalding, our newest Mortgage and Protection Adviser – we thought we should catch up with him to find out how he’s getting on.
We believe it’s important to support our team in their professional development, so after a month with us in the office, Craig is now following a three-month training programme with the Mortgage Advice Bureau, of which Stisi Group is a representative.
Here’s our catch up with Craig
Stisi Group: Hi Craig! Thanks for letting us check in with you – we’re excited to share what you’ve been up to. So – what have you been doing since you joined us back in March?
Craig Spalding: Hi! So, I spent my first four weeks at Stisi Group HQ, shadowing Ross and Spencer, picking their brains and getting used to the systems. From April 1st I’ve been in the Mortgage Advice Bureau (MAB) Scotland HQ in Edinburgh, on Dundas Street. I’ve had two weeks in the classroom and now up to six weeks of doing applications but with additional support if needed.
SG: We’d love to hear your top three take-aways from your time in the classroom?
CS: *Thinks* OK – first, the true value of a lead; basically, how much business can be generated from treating the client correctly. Second, Stisi Group’s Client Obsession ties in with the value of a lead. The better we help the client and know their situation the more likely we are to continue doing business and get more referrals. Third, preparation is key!
SG: Wise words indeed, Craig! So, what will you be doing next?
CS: I’ll be in the MAB HQ for a few more weeks then it’s back to Stisi Group HQ for the real fun stuff!
SG: What are you most looking forward to within the rest of the training programme?
CS: Helping clients get the mortgages and protection they need to secure their new homes, so they can be safe in the knowledge that it’s all protected.
SG: From your time in Stisi Group HQ, can you tell us something about the team – like who tells the worst jokes?
CS: Spencer definitely has the worst jokes… well, to be fair, I enjoy them, but I reckon it’s only because my jokes are worse than his!
SG: If Stisi Group were a biscuit, what kind would it be?
Tesco Value dark chocolate mint thins – that’s all we have in the office because we don’t discriminate against food intolerances…
SG: Have you started on that Beard of Mortgage Knowledge?
CS: *Laughs* I always have stubble, but a beard of that power takes decades to hone, just ask the Bearded Broker himself!

We’ll check in again with Craig at the end of his training programme, on his return to our Musselburgh office.
